we all need someone to look up to, says Gurbaksh Singh Chahal

Gurbaksh Singh Chahal: My Grandmother Taught Me to Believe in My Dreams

Humans are social beings, and as such we find meaning through social interaction. We learn by modeling others as we grow up, and that is why it is vital that children have good role models early in their lives, says Gurbaksh Singh Chahal.

Our strategies for success in later life depend on the core values we adopt as kids. They can be both positive or negative, and sometimes outright detrimental to our lives as adults! Others, however, can lead us to the boost we need to make the right choices down the line.

How Gurbaksh Singh Chahal Found Inspiration

As a world-famous entrepreneur, philanthropist and motivational author, Gurbaksh Singh Chahal was lucky to have found inspiration early in his life in his immediate family. It is, probably, the best-case scenario, as a tightly knit family of loving people that care for each other is one of the greatest gifts that life can offer.

Young children depend on their surrounding to answer such questions as “Who am I?” and “Do I have the strength to pursue my dreams in life?” Encouragement and inspiration provided by their family is invaluable for boosting their self-esteem and guiding them into adulthood with a positive mindset.

“Role models to most people are defined by iconic legends, sector, or by wealth. For me, role model that inspires me to live my life to the fullest is someone whom I know from the close relation and the same goes for that person”, says Gurbaksh.

“Everything is Going to be Alright.”

Gurbaksh Singh Chahal was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His family moved to the US from India when he was four, and they had to go through all the hardships faced by immigrants in a new country. But he was surrounded by people with hearts of gold, and that’s what shaped his success in the future.

“Coming from an immigrant family, I am a product of becoming something from nothing, says Gurbaksh Singh Chahal. All I had was my dream. But, one thing I was never short of growing up – was a wealth of love that surrounded me and continues to surround me. My family has always been the most important pillar of strength in my life. Among my family, the person who taught me the virtue of believing in my dreams and chasing them like there’s no tomorrow, is my grandmother.”

He reveals that his grandmother never finished her school, grew up in poverty, and didn’t speak English. But she had the great gift of love, and she knew how to encourage him as a child. She taught Gurbaksh how to be strong, believe in himself, and she passed on her inspiration to her grandson.

“She never let any of life’s challenges become her weakness. I remember her always being positive about everything – no matter the situation. She just knew how to cut the tension out the room or a situation. She is the epitome of pillar of love for my family. Growing up with limited means and standing out to be different was tough, but every day when I came back from school, I would get a hug from her. Followed by her soothing voice, reassuring me that “everything is going to be alright.” That was more than enough for me to get a boost of strength to continue moving forward,” remembers Gurbaksh.

Strive To Be a Great Role Model

Each and every one of us, can make a difference, says Gurbaksh. Be considerate of people around you, and don’t waste a chance to inspire and encourage them. Sometimes all that it takes to change a child’s life for the better is being there to support and reassure them.

Unfortunately, not all children are blessed with a loving family or a significant person they can trust and look up to. It is a sad truth of life, but it is something we as adults can change. Don’t be shy to help your neighbor, or your student, or any other child who may need a boost of self-esteem or just some simple everyday reminders that they can be anything they want to be and achieve their dreams.

Be a better person to inspire others. Let’s try and make this world a happier place for all of us; it’s our future we’re shaping here and now. Let’s make it a future where every child knows that he or she can dream big – and make that dream come true.
